VIGIL-AIDE ELECTRIC/GAS STOVE ISOLATION SYSTEM
PROBLEM.
People in the early stages of Alzheimer's and living alone in their homes can leave gas and electric stoves on or can burn pots and pans because they have forgotten them. Gas stoves can be left on either lit or unlit and electric stoves can be left on.
With the lit gas or electric stove left on, the major problem is a possibility of fire. Pots and pans can have burnt food in them making them difficult to clean.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM.
The stove supply isolation system is applicable for use on gas or electric stoves. It is designed to turn on the gas or electricity supply to the stove after pressing a switch and to automatically turn the stove off after a period of 20 minutes.
If a relative visits the house and wishes to cook an extended meal, a bypass switch and light indicator is fitted to enable the stove to be operated for an extended period, eg 2 hours without having to restore the alarm every 20 minutes or so. This switch is placed in such a location that the person normally using the stove cannot access it easily.
Two indicator lights are provided, a RED one to indicate that power or gas is connected via the time delay circuit, a GREEN one to indicate that the bypass switch is activated.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENT.
It is recommended that a new 240 power point be installed in the kitchen next to the stove to power the isolation system. This prevents the power pack being accidentally removed if a normal kitchen power point is used.
GAS STOVE INSTALLATION
When used on a gas stove, an electrically operated gas valve must be installed by a licensed gas fitter and an additional power point is required to be installed above the stove to power the electronic control system.
A control box is connected to the gas valve, powered from the power point, controls the gas valve.
ELECTRIC STOVE INSTALLATION
When used on an electric stove, a 30 amp relay is fitted in the back of the stove. The power to the stove is wired through the relay. The output from the control box is used to activate the relay.
For safety’s sake qualified electrician must install the system.
Kits containing all fittings for either gas or electric stoves are supplied with the unit.
